We present the ACEA report on registration of new passenger cars in the EU by fuel types*
In the first quarter of 2022 , the market share of hybrid electric vehicles expanded, accounting for 25.1% of total passenger car sales in the European Union (up from 20.9% in Q1 2021). Total registrations of new electrically-chargeable vehicles also rose during the first three months of the year. Battery electric vehicles almost doubled their market share compared to the same period last year – now making up 10.0% of all sales – surpassing plug-in hybrids, which account for 8.9% of the EU market. Diesel- and petrol-powered vehicles on the other hand continued to lose market share. Nonetheless, registrations of traditional fossil-fuel cars still dominated the market, with a combined share of 52.8%.
